I absolutely love coming to Canada, especially when it snows. While there was snow on the ground when we arrived, we always seem to bring the California sunshine with us. It snowed for a quick minute one evening while we were coaching the inline clinic, but for the most part it has been sunny during the day. We have been here for 9 days and the city is pretty wet as the snow continues to melt.
Back about 5 days ago not all was sunshine and happiness. Well there were a few laughs but I came very close to breaking my wrist. While I was minding my own business as we left the Oval, I hit some ice while crossing the street. First my left foot slid out to the front of me, but I caught it just in time to have my right foot slid forward and up. I quickly had to make a decision as to how I was going to break my fall without falling. I shifted my weight forward but I guess I shifted too much as the left foot once again took flight, this time going out behind me. Mind you all of this happened within 2-4 seconds. It wouldn't be my feet or even my balance that would take me down to the ground. In fact if you are laughing right now... I am laughing right along with you... it was absolutely hilarious. As I brought my left foot back underneath me one more time, this time there would be no stopping to shift to the right or rock back and forth. No.... both feet would go out and then UP. Of course what go's up must come down! It was the weight of my BACKPACK that finally did me in!! Once I got that going there was no stopping me. Needless to say I have since changed shoes and emptied most of my backpack out.
But enough of that.... The reason I'm back is I have "spectated" my first ice race and my first inline speed clinic since "retiring" this past September. I have taken so many photos that I thought I would get back on here and share them with you.
